This is the most common variety of ship based weaponry prior to the Imperial Era.  Though Blasters are more efficient and Turbolasers more power the dirt cheep price of making a laser caused its thousand year dominance in the Old Republic Era.  A laser is a simple piece of equipment which uses a tightly controlled arc of current to generate a burst of light that is then focused and refined.  Though lasers are simple they often vary in construction resulting in a wide market of different weapons, the most common difference between lasers is their power draw.  The higher a laser's power draw the slower it will fire due to its recharge cycle and cooling sequence.  Most lasers are considered to large for hand weapons.  Lasers are considered to be a beam energy weapon because they produce a coherent energy "beam" though faster lasers will fire shorter beams. Laser Cannon = 4D20 + 15

Story Data: This is the standard laser cannon that is produced in mass.  They are as common among space ships as astromech droids and its estimated that there is 2 Laser Cannons for every 1 person in the Republic.  There are approximately 7 million variants of this common military grade laser currently being produced. 300 new varieties will be produced next year and 350 the year after that.
