| The Medium Ion Cannon is one of the most widely used weapons in the galaxy. While many other weapons like Turbolasers, Blasters, and Lasers compete for market shares the Ion Cannon's use is undeniable. An Ion cannon uses a blast of free Ions to deal its damage. the function is to disable shields primarily. The higher the velocity of the ions the more damage it has the chance to do. It deals damage by bonding with the energy of the shield and forcing it backwards. The higher the velocity the more likely the energy shield will be forced inside the hull of the ship. After an Ion blast deals damage to an energy shield there is a 15% chance the shields will collapse for the next turn this effect is cumulative up to 60%. This collapse is called shield buckling and is the result of the energy shield being pushed into the hull of the ship. | Ion Cannon = 6D12 | |
| Story Data: While Ion Cannons are most effectively used to penetrate shields they are also extremely effective against common Droids (see Silicate Mechanical Mecha in the Near Future Book). these weapons generally deal double damage to unshielded droids. Some droids equipped with harsh environment shields will not suffer double damage though. Common Electrical maintenance droids are insolated and will take only 1/2 damage. | ||
